Location

The Arches provides luxury accommodation for 6 people in the converted stables of a 16th century farmhouse, providing both a beautiful rural escape, and a base within easy reach of the major cultural and historic city of Edinburgh. For the bright lights, Gorebridge station is just 5 minutes away by car, with regular trains right into the centre of Edinburgh- ideal for the Festival or Hogmanay celebrations.

Set in the hidden beauty of Borthwick valley, The Arches boasts stunning views of nearby Borthwick Castle, a scenic location for the recent movie Outlaw King. This conservation area boasts atmospheric walks through the ancient Currie Woodland up to Crichton Castle with oak trees dating back to the seventeenth century.

The immediate area has the feel of a valley lost in time- the 15th Century Borthwick Castle stands 200 metres from the farmhouse, with the mark of Cromwell's cannonballs etched into the wall from the failed 1650 siege. Visited by Mary Queen Of Scots, the dramatic sense of history creates a rare atmosphere.

The wider area has loads to do- beautiful walks, distilleries, castles, walled gardens, Fala Moor- site of the old Herbal Hospital. Be wowed by contemporary art at Jupiter Art Land, entertain kids at East Links Family Farm, or visit several stunning beaches on the East Lothian coast, about 30-40 minutes by car. And all the cultural and architectural riches of Edinburgh are close at hand.
Borthwick Mains is a working organic beef farm, and so cannot accept pets, but owners Jude and Phil guarantee a warm welcome. And visitors can choose between Mid and East Lothian's wide range of walks, golf courses, castles and stunning beaches- or from the huge range of cultural and historic attractions, or great shopping and restaurants in central Edinburgh.
